Summary of discussions Update on ILRI@40 activities from Nadine

  • All ILRI offices with will hold ILRI@40 learning events during the week of World Food Day. The learning events will commemorate ILRAD-ILCA-ILRI's 40 years of livestock research within the context of the World Food Day which is marked globally on October 16.
  • Alumni and partners will be invited for the learning event which will be more of a "technical" event.
  • The "fun" events will be linked to the Christmas party (to be organized by a different committee)

Discuss and confirm date of Nairobi ILRI@40 Family Day Confirmed - Wednesday 15 October 2014

Soliciting input on activities from staff/Feedback from drop boxes/Friday morning coffee morning brainstorming

  • Very few staff responded to the online request for feedback and suggestions were for "fun/games" type events so there is need to follow up with staff one-on-one or in units to clarify the objective of the day
  • Suggestion of a charity/CSR activity at the neighbouring Vet Labs Primary School (e.g. painting of classrooms or donation of desks as has been done in the past)
  • An ILRI stand at the Nairobi agricultural trade fair or Brookside livestock breeders' show could raise the visibility of ILRI's research and link in with the ILRI@40 theme.

How to go about compiling list of invitees

  • Need to first define the program of the 15 October event then create lists of those who *must* be present [alumni, partners and donors based in Kenya] and those who will be invited but may or may not attend
  • Various lists of partners, alumni and graduate fellows need to be compiled

Action points

  • Confirm with the DDGs that they will be available on 15 October to represent senior management as Jimmy and Shirley will be in Iowa for the global World Food Day celebrations (Nadine)
  • Follow up directly with staff and units for their input on activities: Finance (Rose), Biosciences (Henry), BecA (Joyce & Val), Mara House (Douglas, Joyce & Kate), Operations (Patrick)
  • Obtain list of invitees that Peter has compiled (Nadine)
  • Compile list of alumni (Rose & Loyce)
  • Compile list of past graduate fellows (Joyce to follow up with CapDev consultant already working on this)
